So I finally decided to revist the age old problem of re-organizing and synching my bookmarks which are spread across 4 machines (3 pcs one Mac).I've tried a number of solutions before such as a Firefox extension which saves bookmarks in xml on a server, but still wasn't quite happy. So I've been playing with both
furl and
del.icio.us and while they are both almost a solution to my problem, I really could do with a mixture of the features of both.
What I like about furl
- Allows import and export of bookmarks in multiple formats
- Can archive a copy of the page when you bookmark it so even if the page changes or goes offlien you still have access to the original content without having to visit the wayback machine
What I like about Del.icio.us
- Allows bookmarks to be filtered under different tags - e.g. cfcunit could be filled under, coldfusion, tools and unit testing
- Displays a summary of bookmarks (the main view for furl is your typical next n type interface which is slightly overwhelming when you have pages and pages of bookmarks)
Furl should really have some sort of summary page instead of
having the summary and amount of items in a topic displayed in a list box.
Also the colour highlighting as an indication of how popular a bookmark is on del.icio.us, is really useful so far I prefer Del.icio.us
